Top New Country Music Releases This Week – 14/10/2019

Here are some of the top new releases for the week of 14-10-2019.

All of this week’s new tracks are also on our New Release Round-up playlist on Spotify, along with every other song we’ve included in this feature during the year so far. The playlist is at the bottom of the page – if you’re a Spotify user, give it a follow!

Blake Shelton – Jesus Got A Tight Grip On Me

Where God’s Country was a dark, southern gothic epic, Blake Shelton’s new track is a much more straightforward gospel spiritual affair. Having previously suggested he’s not releasing albums in the future, he’ll actually be dropping  Fully Loaded : God’s Country, a 12 track album mixing 5 new songs with 7 hits from previous albums, on 13th December.  It’s not been confirmed that Jesus Got A Tight Grip On Me will feature but God’s Country and Hell Right, the recent collaboration with Trace Adkins, will be included on the album.

Hootie & The Blowfish – Hold On

Although they’ve dropped 3 tracks already from their new album Imperfect Circle, due out on November 1st, this is actually the first song to be formally released to radio as a single. Darius Rucker pleads for perseverance and community over a catchy track with all the Hootie hallmarks, though it was actually written by Jim Beavers ( Dierks Bentley, Billy Currington, Josh Turner, Gary Allan and more) and Chris Stapleton (who needs no introduction!). We caught up with the band earlier this week, you can read the interview here.

Easton Corbin – Raising Humans

From the title, you’d be justified in thinking this would be a song about some aspect of parents raising a family. Well, maybe, maybe not. It’s all a question of perspective on this one. We’ll not give it away. Give it a listen, and have a tissue ready.

Chris Janson – Hawaii On Me

Taken from Chris Janson’s third studio album Real Friends, released today (18th October). The song features a man who knows he’s dying, leaving a wife and children behind, but asking them not to mourn and to instead to celebrate his life by going to “Hawaii on me”. Janson wrote the song with his wife Kelly Lynn, inspired by a true story Kelly had found.

Toby Keith – Back In The 405

Toby’s Greatest Hits: The Show Dog Years is released next week (25th October) featuring highlights from his recordings on his own label, plus 4 newly recorded songs. This bluesy number is one of them, and it’s a co-write with Colt Ford.

Maddie & Tae w/ Dierks Bentley – Lay Here With Me

The duo’s new EP Everywhere I’m Goin’ is out today (18th Oct), this co-lab with Dierks is a two sides of a couple who’ve let something come between them and are struggling to get beyond it. A ballad with great vocals, of course, over a soulful arrangement featuring yearning organ and pedal steel.

Tanner Usrey – Come Back Down

Tanner Usrey is a Texas Country singer-songwriter and Come Back Down is his third release. On this track, he’s a guy who found the grass wasn’t greener when he left his woman for another. “Street signs and people, prescription pills and too much booze | All the things I use, trying to forget about you | And I still see your face in every single crowd | But you’re never there to catch me, when I come back down”. Looking forward to hearing more from him.
