Top New Country Music Releases – 19/06/2020

Here are some of the top new Country and Americana releases for the week of 19/06/2020.

All of this week’s new tracks are also on our New Release Round-up 2020 playlist on Spotify, along with every other song we’ve included in this feature during the year so far. If you’re a Spotify user, give it a follow so you can keep up to date!

Josh Turner – Country State Of Mind (w/ Chris Janson)

Josh Turner announced a new album this week, it’s a covers album and it features a raft of guest appearances from the likes of Maddie & Tae, Runaway June, Kris Kristofferson, and Randy Travis in his first studio session since his stroke in 2013. For the title track from the album, Country State Of Mind, Turner is joined by Chris Janson to deliver their take on the Hank Williams Jr hit.

Aaron Watson – Whisper My Name

It’s always good to have new music from Aaron Watson, and his fans will certainly appreciate this new track from the Vaquero. A neat self-made video too. We’re guessing it was filmed in a safe space on his ranch. Hands on the wheel, Aaron!

Triston Marez – One Day

Speaking of Aaron Watson, here’s someone who credits him as an influence on his own career. Triston Marez is a young man making waves on the Texas country scene and beyond, with a series of well received single and EP releases over the last couple of years that we’ve often featured here. One Day is an up-tempo, steel and fiddle laden, romantic look towards a future life together.

Erin Enderlin – Fishin’ In The Dark

Known for her own skills as a songwriter, Erin Enderlin isn’t averse to picking up a cover from time to time. Here she’s gone back to the 80’s for this rework of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band hit, slowed down a little and with a bit of a Bluegrass feel.

Corb Lund – Never Not Had Horses

Canadian Country stalwart Corb Lund releases his new album Agricultural Tragic on 26th June after the original release date was pushed back a couple of months. Some kind of virus going around, apparently. Anyhow, just ahead of that album he’s dropped this track, a sentimental tale about a woman who has Never Not Had Horses throughout her life – a twist on the more usual “me and my dog” type of song.

Logan Mize – Prettiest Girl In The World

Logan Mize is one of those artists who keeps you on your toes. You’re never quite sure what kind of style his next release is going to be, so wide and diverse is his palatte. This new song, Prettiest Girl In The World, is quite solidly in the country spectrum. Written a few years ago, when his wife was pregnant with their daughter, Logan hopes through this ballad that as she grows she’ll be treated right by the men in her life.

William Michael Morgan – Behind Closed Doors

WMM shows that age is no barrier for a great song. Originally a monster hit for Charlie Rich 47 (yes, 47!) years ago , most of the elements from the original are present in this respectful cover. The countrypolitan piano, the emotive vocal delivery, the key change for the second verse; just the strings are dialled down, but they are still in there. But there’s no point in creating a straight copy, right? It’s kind of amusing now to think that the original was banned by some radio stations at the time because it was felt to be a little bit risqué…

Rascal Flatts – How They Remember You

Rascal Flatts should be in the middle of their farewell tour right now. Of course we all understand why that’s not happenning, but it’s a huge disappointment to both the band and to all the fans who’ve followed them throughout their career. How They Remember You is everything Flattheads would want. An inspirational lyric, a soaring melody with a big hooky chorus, Gary, Jay and Joe’s vocal combination…. It’s hard to think of anything more fitting if they actually decided to wrap things up with this track – but we suspect there might be one or two more releases in the tank before they do call it a day.
