Caitlyn Smith has been winning hearts and minds this last week with her gigs in Manchester, Glasgow and London. Georgie Thorogood reviews her latest single:
There’s been a fair bit of talk about Caitlyn Smith in the UK since her appearance at the C2C festival last March. Building on that, her most recent visit has cemented this singer-songwriter firmly into the hearts of UK country music fans.
Having missed her C2C sets (and subsequently only seen her briefly when she made an appearance at last Friday’s Breland gig), until now it was impossible to decide for myself if she is as good as had been reported. However, I’m delighted to say that if Maybe In Another Life is anything to go by, that’s a resounding yes.
Having been a big fan of I Can’t, her previous release alongside Old Dominion, she had subsequently somehow been a little under my radar. This single starts off almost acoustically, with gentle guitar and a pure, but somehow imperfect (in a perfect way) vocal, soon developing into a bigger sound, yet without adding too much production.

Co-written with Jennifer Decilveo (Miley Cyrus, Anne-Marie, Demi Lovato), this song would slot imperceptibly into a Lady Gaga setlist alongside the soundtrack from A Star Is Born.
Not only a fantastic song in itself, the single leaves the listener in no doubt that they need to hear more of Caitlyn Smith – and, as audiences have been finding out during Country Music Week, they won’t be disappointed. Let’s hope she comes back again soon.
The track is taken from her widely praised new album High, which was released to glowing reviews earlier this year and is available on Monument Records and to download via streaming services.
