Album review: Kip Moore – Damn Love

Kip Moore new album
It’s a 10 from Sally for Damn Love

When a preview version of Kip Moore’s Damn Love (out today) landed in our inbox, it already had Sally Maybury’s name on it. If it was a vinyl, we reckon it would have been worn out by now…thank goodness for streaming. Here’s what Sally says…

This is the fifth studio album from the husky-voiced man we all love, Kip Moore, with 13 new tracks co-produced with Jaren Johnston (The Cadillac Three) it promises to deliver raw energy and a side to Kip we may never have seen before. As a huge Kip fan I was honoured to have a sneak preview to the album, read on to find out my thoughts!

The title track Damn Love gives me huge ’80s vibes, it opens with catchy synth riff and I can
guarantee that by the end of the chorus it’ll have you singing along, a song we can all relate too, a
traditional love song that has something for everyone.

Kip says: “I still crave that companionship deep down in my DNA, and that’s where Damn
Love
comes from. There’s a reason love and relationships have been written about so much –
and why they continue to get written about. Because at the core of us, that’s what we desire the
most.” Hear Hear!

As we move on through the album Kinda Bar has that more rocky edge that we have all become
familiar with, it’s simple, and straight to the point about a ‘the kinda bar I wanna drink beer in’ but
I have no doubt that come the festivals of the summer this track will be playing loud and proud!
There are tracks such as Heart On Fire that will instantly get your toes tapping, and others like
Sometimes She Stays that will make you stop and listen.

One of my favourite songs on the album, and yes it is because it features one of my favourite
female country singers, Ashley McBryde, is One Heartbeat. It’s a love song at it’s heart about two
souls becoming ‘one heartbeat’, it has a joyful, and uplifting sound and I love it!

Taking it to another level…

This album is a peek into the soul and heart of a man who is clearly looking for love, he takes us
on a journey of all the places you would typically find it, and it’s obvious that he can’t escape it.
Ordinarily when I write an album review I like to look at each track individually and really analyse
them, but this time I felt differently, the album as a whole gives me a different feeling, and I think
each track lends itself so uniquely to each other. We go from soft guitar driven ballad, to edgy ’80s
rock sound, it really does cover it all.

I wasn’t sure about this album the first time I listened to it, and I’ve been lucky enough to listen to
it many times since writing this, but what I do love about the album is the variety that moves
through each track. It has the underpinning of the raw, edgy voice that we know is Kip’s but I think
the songwriting on this album takes it to another level. It isn’t just songs about girls, bars and
trucks, it goes deeper than that. And you can feel it through the music that Kip delivers.

With all but one track written by Kip, Damn Love is out today (April 28) on Snakefarm in the UK and is available via to download from all the usual places. Plus, don’t forget he’s touring these shores this May (details below) and for more information visit kipmoore.net
